Little White Girl
I care not for a steak made rare
A rare moment like this one I do
Little 2-year-old white girl
As precious as this summer day
For a reason uncommon this world
Dashes to me in my dismay
Wraps her little arms around my leg
Without words she’s able to say
Stranger I know how to love you
I see you are big, black, and tall
Love blinds and a hug reveals
What's purer than a child’s love
Today
Little white girl blessed me
Tomorrow
Little white girl will heal the world

ReplyDeleteWhen our fraternal twin granddaughters Adria and Emmy were 3 or 4 we took them to a park in Nashville. We knew there were ducks in the pond there and we took along something appropriate to feed them.
ReplyDeleteI spied a woman who appeared to be homeless on a wrought iron prk bench, warming herself and resting her bones in spring sunshine. Adria, too had noticed the lone woman and ventured towards her. Their gaze was each fixed upo the other.
Adria broke out into a big smile. The woman responded in kind. She notices us observing. She smiled. We smiled. Not one word needed to be spoken. Love was given and received all around.
I would not trade that moment for a million dollars.
That last comment about our twins and the ducks was me, Emmett. I don’t see a way to edit it and change from anonymous~
