a body bag / but on his back / airlifted /

from the field of battle / saddled 

with visible / and invisible / wounds /

 

off the field of battle / men come /

some walk / others limp / 

many men / dead / dying / as

large numbers / glad / they hadn't /

 

I remember / siblings remember /

how quickly / the nation forgets /

his name / Sgt. Wheatfall / a soldier’s
